History: The Houston Blues Museum was founded in 2009 by Sandy Hickey and Jomonica Phoenix, who were concerned that without people dedicated to preserving the legacies of Houston's Blues musicians, their stories would fade into the distance. The women put together a board of equally committed music lovers, incorporated as a non-profit in 2010, and began collecting artifacts and spreading the news about the museum. The purpose of the new organization was to establish a museum dedicated to the acquisition, historical preservation, study, and education of art and artifacts honoring the rich blues heritage in Houston, Texas.
Programming: The Houston Blues Museum serves the local community by providing enrichment and educational programs for adults and children that fulfill the museum’s mission and strengthen its relationship with local residents, as well as, provide support for the continued preservation of this essential cultural history.
